The summer ended in a flurry of activity for the Law v Practice team, beginning in August, with PI Frances Nolan presenting research findings at the fourteenth annual Tudor & Stuart Ireland (TSI) Conference at Trinity College Dublin. The recording of that presentation is now available through HistoryHub.ie (via Soundcloud, iTunes and Spotify).
In September, meanwhile, Frances and Law versus Practice DH consultant, Niall O’Leary, presented findings from the project at the 2026 Digital Humanities Congress at the University of Sheffield. Hosted biennially by the Digital Humanities Institute at Sheffield, DHC it is one of the leading conferences in the field, attracting specialists from across the globe. This was a fantastic platform to share our progress and receive feedback from international delegates, and to gain insight into some of the exciting developments in DH. Frances also contributed to the closing roundtable, discussing the role of DH in a changing Higher Education landscape.
In other news, the Law v Practice team will collaborate with the Royal Irish Academy, the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland and the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, on the ‘List of Claims’ project. Funded by an RIA Nowlan Digitisation Grant, the project will facilitate the structured digitisation of the Registers’ Minute Books from the court of claims that was established in 1700 to resolve the Williamite land settlement. These are richly detailed records, which shine a light on the political, economic and social landscape of early modern Ireland, and on women’s role and experiences therein.
